As of late I have been indulging in something that I thought had been left behind with my ill-fitting, home altered high school jeans. Fanfiction. It is much more addicting and enveloping than I last remember it being, perhaps from the years I spent avoiding fanfiction at all costs for fear of what I am now experiencing. There are a few key differences in my desire for fanfiction now in comparison to my high school days.
(1) I no longer overlook grammatical errors in hopes that plot will outshine them
(2) Heteroslash does nothing for me
(3) Mary Sue’s are never taken seriously and are generally discarded at the first sign of an OC with a romantic interest
(4) Crossovers are hilarious
(5) Torturing other people with bad fanfiction is awesome
Either way, I have been printing off hundreds of pages of fanfiction and consuming them constantly. The good fanfiction I put aside with a nod of approval. I roll my eyes at the mediocre fanfiction and throw it away. And the bad fanfiction I read over and over until I am literally sick and stay in bed for a extensive period of time trying to re-educate myself on what is right and what is grotesquely wrong in the world. Once I feel well enough to look at a computer or talk on the phone, I go on to read whichever bad fanfiction incapacitated me to other people who then become sick themselves and the cycle continues.
